<p>A five day physical inspection and assessment of 17 Otji-toilets installed during the first year of the E-CAP project was carried out in Grundorn South and Nico Noord, using a questionnaire including a sketch of the structure of the Otji-toilet.</p> <p>The inspection of the 17 dry sanitation systems revealed that most toilets were in good condition with slight or no smell and were kept clean by the owners. <p>On Tuesday, 8th May 2012, Abraham Hangula flew up to Tsumkwe with the contractors responsible for the installation of the hybrid system. The aim of this trip was to resolve some crucial outstanding technical issues on the system. <p>Lack of solid waste management in rural communities can be a threat to both humans and animals and the environment they live in. Windblown waste is not only an eyesore in the landscape but a hazard to, e.g. children and small stock. <p>From 26 April to 5 May, four students from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) travelled to Tsumkwe, Otjozondjupa Region with Abraham Hangula and Clarence Mazambani. They performed a socio-economic evaluation of effects of the Tsumkwe Energy Project, the largest solar-diesel hybrid system in Southern Africa.
