Dry sanitation for rural communities
The rural component of the E-CAP project is in the process of piloting dry sanitation systems at selected farms on Odendaal farms in the Hardap region. The specific locations where dry sanitation systems are piloted are: Grundorn South, Nico Noord, Laurensia, Laurensia Pos, Doringdraai and Nico.

The 11th of August the E-CAP project organized a vacuum sewer workshop, held in Gibeon, Hardap Region. The meeting was attended by 45 people including representatives of six Village and Town Councils, Engineers and Contractors, relevant Decision Makers and members of the Performance Support Teams (PST).

The objectives of the meeting were:
– To workshop the results of the Performance Support Team process
– To enhance understanding of water supply, waste water management
– To involve stakeholders to directly handle challenges of the vacuum sewer sysystems

The 9th of August 2011 a stakeholders’ meeting took place in Eenhana, sharing experiences and ideas about the “Integrated Approach to Education for San Communities in Ohangwena Region”. Before the meeting NGOs and Government agencies that support Early Childhood Development made a field trip to familiarize themselves to the San Resettlement Projects and Early Childhood Development centers in Ouholamo, Omanatadiva, Eendobe, Oshanashiwa and Ekoka.

Socio-Ecological Impact Assessment of CuveWaters technologies

DRFN is carrying out a Socio-Ecological Impact Assessment (SEIA) of technologies piloted by the CuveWaters project. Between 28 – 31 July visits were made to the CuveWaters desalination plants in Akusima and Amarika in Omusati region, and the rainwater harvesting and ground storage installations in Epyeshona, located in Oshana region.
