Mission
Picture of the month

The DRFN is a Namibian non-governmental sustainability organisation aiming to enhance decision-making for sustainable development through research, training and consultancy in the country's land, water and energy sectors.

Solar energy services were inaugurated at seven schools and kindergartens in Ohangwena Region on 7 June 2007. Donor funding from UN agencies and Spanish Cooperacion helped to purchase and install solar systems for powering lights, fridges and IT equipment in the schools and hostels.

In addition to managing that component,DRFN provided training and support to the users themselves. Staff member Dasius Nelumbu checks the temperature of a solar box cooker being used to prepare the midday meal as part of the handover and training activities. Namibia’s sun can indeed provide the total energy solution to remote communities.

Areas of Focus

Based on our slogan 'enhancing decision making for sustainable development' we contribute to the broad field of Integrated Land and Water Management. Areas of focus include:
-Rangeland management and livestock development,
-combating land degradation and desertification,
-integrated water resource management,
-implementation of basin management approaches, and
-renewable energy and energy efficiency.

All of which contribute to livelihood sustainability in a variable environment.

We work extensively with a variety of partners. Do you see yourself interacting with us in this broad field?
