Livelihood Support Programme
(LISUP)
to the resettlement areas of Drimiopsis, Skoonheid, Donkerbos-Sonneblom and Arovley in Omaheke and Khomas Regions
The main objective of LISUP is the improvement of the living conditions in the resettlement projects of Donkerbos/Sonneblom, Skoonheid and Drimiopsis in the Omaheke Region and Arovley in the Khomas Region. In the long term LISUP aims to reduce poverty and to stimulate sustainable livelihoods in resettlement areas.
LISUP’s intervention is based on an integrated approach to rural development that deals with social, economic, environmental and institutional aspects of livelihoods on the resettlement farms. LISUP considers development as a people-oriented process that needs to engage the communities it aims to support. Participation of the project beneficiaries and collaboration with partners in government institutions are therefore key elements in the strategy of LISUP. The project targets poor and vulnerable households on the resettlement farms, in particular the San population, who represent the majority of the inhabitants on the resettlement farms.
In order to strengthen the livelihoods on the resettlement farms, the project turns around capacity building in the following areas:
Life Skills
Community organisation, leadership and
communication skills and
Social empowerment and human rights
Food Security
Crop and livestock production, nutrition and health and
Income generation, craft production and marketing
Interface with service providers
Service provision: land, water and electricity and
Infrastructure, housing and sanitation.
