Tsumkwe Energy
Tsumkwe, located in the Otjozondjupa
Region’s former Bushmanland, is Namibia’s largest off-grid
settlement.
Through the Tsumkwe Energy project, the DRFN and its partners,
NamPower and the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, will establish a
solar diesel hybrid electricity generating station and mini-grid.
The anticipated size will be 130 kWp, which will make Tsumkwe Energy
the largest hybrid system in Southern Africa. The project is financially
supported by the European Commission’s Energy Facility. Tsumkwe
Energy commenced in March 2008 and will conclude in February 2011.
