Goanikontes EIA

Terrestrial ecology and vertebrate diversity components

Bannerman Mining Resources Namibia (Pty) Ltd holds an Exclusive Exploration Licence (EPL 3345) over the proposed uranium mine area, centred on the Goanikontes area. The EPL is located within the Namib Naukluft Park and West Coast Recreational Park, south-east of Swakopmund. The main target area can easily be accessed via the C28 and D1991 from Swakopmund.

The overall objective of the study is to contribute to the Environmental Impact Assessment that will determine the potential positive and negative aspects the proposed mining project might incur. The findings will be used to develop an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the construction and operation of the mine.

The terrestrial ecology component will bring together the inputs of other biologists in the team to focus on the main ecological drivers in the area and assess potential impacts of the mine on them. Ways to reduce serious negative impacts will be suggested for inclusion in the mine planning process.
