Message from the Chairman of the Board
of Trustees
DRFN Annual Report 2006-2007
In past years, my message has focused on capacity building, and
this year is no ecxeption. Although our mission hightlights research,
training and consultancy activities, none of these activities is
undertaken without some element of capacity building within or outside
the organisation. On the formal side, one PhD was initiated and
two were ongoing amongst staff members. Three BTech degrees were
in progress and six interns from the Polytechnic worked with the
DRFN during the past year. Six international students volunteered
with the DRFN, three working on higher degrees and three in established
exchange programmes. In total, more than one third of our own staff
advanced their formal education and training during the year under
review. At the same time, all of our staff, without exception, gained
greater experience and exposure to environmental issues at the local,
regional and international levels while many received focused in-house
training in various fields. I wish to emphasise that this experience
and exposure to a wide variety of responisibilites, activities,
people and interactions remains one of the key elements of capacity
building amongst all DRFN staff and associates.
