E-CAP: Local Authority Support in Gibeon and Stampriet through Performance Support Team approach.

Based on an approach piloted in Kalkrand, the Performance Support Team (PST) was implemented in Gibeon from 30 May – 01 June 2011, and in Stampriet from 27-30 June 2011.

The local authorities were visited with the aim of discussing challenges and finding solutions for them pertaining to water supply, sanitation and solid waste management in their respective areas.

Dry sanitation for rural communities
The rural component of the E-CAP project is in the process of piloting dry sanitation systems at selected farms on Odendaal farms in the Hardap region. The specific locations where dry sanitation systems are piloted are: Grundorn South, Nico Noord, Laurensia, Laurensia Pos, Doringdraai and Nico.

The 11th of August the E-CAP project organized a vacuum sewer workshop, held in Gibeon, Hardap Region. The meeting was attended by 45 people including representatives of six Village and Town Councils, Engineers and Contractors, relevant Decision Makers and members of the Performance Support Teams (PST).

The objectives of the meeting were:
– To workshop the results of the Performance Support Team process
– To enhance understanding of water supply, waste water management
